Parat Halvorsen Supplies Innovative Electrode Boiler for Gren’s Efficiency Project in Latvia

Parat Halvorsen, the global leader in high-voltage electrode boiler technology, announces its collaboration with Gren on an efficiency improvement project in Jelgava, Latvia. Gren, dedicated to sustainable energy, has chosen Parat Halvorsen’s 20 MW high-voltage electrode boiler to optimize operations at its biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant, reflecting the growing demand for reliable and efficient energy solutions in Europe.

The electrode boiler, manufactured in Norway, will enable Gren to capitalize on favorable electricity prices while ensuring sustainable and cost-effective heat energy production. This advanced technology is designed to integrate seamlessly into Gren's operations, supporting electricity market balancing services and enhancing resource efficiency and energy reliability for customers.

Innovation for Sustainability

The electrode boiler will be delivered in a compact, containerized format to seamlessly integrate into Gren's biomass CHP plant alongside its heat energy storage unit. This design saves space and ensures quick and efficient installation.

Parat Halvorsen’s cutting-edge electrode boilers are recognized for their reliability, high efficiency, and sustainability. The solution operates with zero emissions at the point of use and can switch from idle to full load within seconds, making it ideal for balancing dynamic energy markets.

Commitment to Excellence

Gren’s investment of approximately two million euros underscores its focus on sustainability and efficiency. One million euros will be allocated to the purchase of the electrode boiler from Parat Halvorsen, with the remainder earmarked for design and construction.

– We are delighted to support Gren in their mission to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability, says Håkon Skogseide, Sales Engineer Parat Halvorsen. This collaboration underscores Parat’s position as the leading supplier of electrode boilers in Europe. The boiler system is designed to meet the demands for grid regulation requirements (FCR, aFRR & mFRR services) of modern energy markets while supporting the transition to greener solutions, says Skogseide. Installation is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.
