PARAT Electrode Boilers for the Edvard Grieg Electrification
Our second boiler package for the Electrification of the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), this time a 2x17MW High Voltage Electrode Boiler package for hot water to Lundin Energy Norway. We are very proud of being selected as supplier to this prestigious project on Edvard Grieg with equipment certified for EX zone II.
The Norwegian company PARAT Halvorsen will supply the electric boilers that will provide the heating on the Edvard Grieg platform offshore Norway when the field is supplied with power from shore. This means that the last piece of the puzzle to fully electrify Edvard Grieg is coming into place. (Photo: Lundin)
PARAT Halvorsen has again secured the delivery of High Voltage Electrode Boilers for the North Sea. This time the end client is Lundin Energy Norway, and the boilers will be installed onboard the Edvard Grieg platform to replace the gas turbins which generates the heat onboard today. PARAT got involved early in the process, and worked out the final solution in close cooperation with Aibel and Lundin.
The scope of supply from PARAT consist of two 17MW High Voltage Electrode boilers that shall produce 190°C/13.5barg hot water. The boilers will be assembled on a skid to a turnkey package. PARAT designs and manufactures a robust steelconstruction of approximately 7x10m that shall provide space for the boilers, pumps will belonging piping systems and heat exchangers that connects the boiler system to the existing Heating Medium system onboard. The layout design will have high focus on operation and maintenance. PARAT will supply our own control system, with full integration towards Honeywell's topsystem.

The Electrode Boiler package is considered as a complex delivery as the equipment shall be located outside on open deck, be certified for EX zone II and fulfill all Norsok requirements. PARAT delivered the same kind of boiler EX-certified already in 2009, and are thus familiar with this, but this time in addition there are higher requirements to material quality and frost protection to make the package suitable for being placed in saline atmosphere. The capacity of the boiler package is 2x100% which will give the Client full redundancy and thus secure high availability that is necessary to keep the oilproduction on the platform ongoing.
– This is a great day for us. It means a lot to us that Lundin Energy Norway has kept a steady course on this project, and that we have reached this contract today.' says Halvorsen. The boiler package shall be delivered to Edvard Grieg end 2021/early 2022 and PARAT shall contribute with support during the installation onboard and the following commissioning and training of operators.
'– PARAT is a well established Norwegian company that delivers high-quality turn-key products. The company has demonstrated their ability to work with us as partners and incorporate our specific requirements, as well as listening to any input we may have,' says field development director in Lundin Energy Norway, Charlotte Berge.
Both heating and power needs will be met with power from shore by 2022. This will account for an annual emission reduction of around 200,000 tonnes of CO2, the equivalent of taking approximately 65,000 private cars off the road. (Photo: Lundin)
