10MW Electrode Steam Boiler to Aurubis in Hamburg

This fast Electrode Boiler is a 10MW, 6kV Steam boiler with 16 barg pressure and temperatures up to 204°C.

As part of the project NEW 4.0, Aurubis is planning to replace a portion of the current steam generation that uses naturaI gas with a power-to-heat system, in the interests of the overarching goal of increased flexibility. With this system, it will be possible to produce steam in an electrode boiler during times when excess energy from renewable sources is available. The generated steam will be made available to the many different production processes via a network of steam lines. Not only will the construction of the power-to-heat system achieve the goal of greater flexibility, it will also outfit a plant in an energy-intensive industry in the context of the smart energy grid.

Under the name of 'NEW 4.0', a unique project initiative has been established in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein through collaboration between business, science and government. 'NEW' stands for the Norddeutsche EnergieWende [North German Energy Transition] and '4.0' describes the threshold of the fourth industrial revolution: the digitalisation of industry, which will play an increasingly central role through the intelligent networking of systems, including in the context of the energy transition. As a large project involving multiple German states, NEW 4.0 intends to real ise a sustainable energy supply in order to strengthen the region's fitness for the future. To achieve a decisive advance in the energy transition in the north, more than 50 partners in the region are pooling the necessary expertise and innovation.
